This is in response to the letter by MA, 'Respecting religious sensitivities in art'.

In the west, virtually every aspect of every religion is lampooned, criticised and made fun of. Ever watched Monty Python's ' Life of Brian ' ? I cannot imagine a more "insulting" movie to a Jew.

Or perhaps the recent ' A Price Above Rubies ' which did not make fun of Judaism but was instead a rather more serious condemnation of orthodox Jewry.

Perhaps the writer has not heard of ' The Last Temptation of Christ ' , which raised a ruckus in the US and Europe for its "blasphemous" potrayal of Jesus. Perhaps the writer is unaware of the Church condemnation of that film.

Perhaps the writer is unaware that these films were never banned despite all the opposition, despite the "blasphemy".

To paraphrase a great philosopher, I may not agree with what you said, but I will defend your right to say it. I know that I would never call for the banning of anyone from voicing his or her opinion no matter how silly, ignorant or foolish, including that of MA's.

Does MA dare defend Instant Caf Theatre's right to free speech? Will MA extend the same courtesy he or she has received from malaysiakini to ICT? If not, why not ? Isn't it hypocritical to enjoy the right of free speech and free expression and yet, in the same breath, deny that same right to another?

Kuala Lumpur City Hall does not have and should not have the right to ban anything. Anything. No one has a right to think for you. No one has the right to speak for you. No one has the right to determine what you can or cannot read, watch or say.

No one forced Malaysians to watch 'The 2nd First Bolehwood Awards - The Director's Cut'. If you are offended by what is said, don't listen. If you are offended by what you are watching, walk out, go away.

No one else is forcing anything down anyone's throat, so why do people like MA and City Hall think that they can force their sensitivities down my throat?

I'm sorry, but if you are too immature to deal with criticism, satire or political commentary, you shouldn't watching an ICT performance in the first place.
