I would like to comment that if insulting words and racial slurs are to be included in a dictionary like the Kamus Dewan in order to explain terminologies, then the words or phrases must be clearly marked as derogatory.

An example is the word 'nigger' which is a racial slur for African Americans. The word is included in Webster's Dictionary (1989 edition), with clear notation that it is an "offensive and disparaging" term.

A similar explicit notation should also be included to explain ' keling ' and other racially offensive words such as 'chink' or any other term.

In this manner we are not reducing the richness of a language, while at the same time not passing disparaging remarks like ' keling mabuk todi ' and ' keling pelikat '.

Like I said in a previous letter, if a community objects to the usage of a term then others should refrain from using it - that should be the test.
