Lisa Jaafar's argument that there is no compulsion in religion as provided for in Islam reflects her total lack of understanding in the true teaching of Islam itself. It is almost a joke putting forward such a shallow thinking for such a big concept of the liberalization of the Malays.

The notion of 'no compulsion in religion' is only applicable to those who have not accepted Islam as their faith. Once a person has accepted Islam, he or she should be guided by another tenet i.e. accept Islam in its totality as well as many other pertinent tenets.

As such, the Malays - most of whom are born Muslims - do not have any choice but to accept Islam in totality i.e their way of life. Of course there is no hindrance to the learning of other faiths or beliefs.

Perhaps the writer needs to study further on the various aspects of Islamic teachings before jumping onto a misguided notion of a small part of the faith while choosing to ignore other significant parts.
