I am glad the authorities are finally telling the public more about the proposed thermal treatment plant in Broga, like why we need it and how it would benefit us. The advertisements on proper waste management by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government are quite enlightening.

I agree that Malaysia's Vision 2020 should not only be about being a developed country with world-class infrastructures. It should also be about using modern methods to manage waste better.

Becoming more civic-conscious is part and parcel of moving forward. For example, changing habits in disposing of waste. In advanced countries, it has become daily routine to recycle and reuse. Waste that cannot be recycled goes to incinerators. It is time we practise these methods of waste disposal instead of dumping rubbish into unsanitary landfills which harm the environment.
