JPJ (Road Transport Department) director-general Emran Kadir was quoted in The Star today as saying that a JPJ officer was sacked recently for allegedly changing the particulars of a vehicle.

If it was merely a case of an officer making a mistake, he would not have been sacked. The fact was that he was allegedly falsifying information entrusted under his charge.

If that is true, the officer obviously got off lightly. Was his intention of falsifying information investigated? When can a public officer be charged in a court of law for criminal breach of trust? Has it got to involve misappropriation of monies?

Perhaps the social watchdogs of governmental malpractice can look into this.
