I refer to LCH's letter: ' What PAS must do to get non-Muslim votes '. The big difference between PAS and Umno is their ideology. PAS is based on Islam and accepts anyone as its member, whatever their ethnicity - as long as they are Muslim.

But Umno is a Malay-based party, its member must be Malays (expanded to bumiputera recently). Malay nationalism no longer attracts the Malays. They have been more exposed to universal values of equality, justice, modernisation and even globalisation. Interestingly, Islam does not opposes these values - they are even in line with the true teaching of Islam.

And PAS has it all. Umno now worries about losing power. They attack PAS on Islamic issues and accuses PAS of misrepresenting true Islam. Umno also go a step further by claiming that Malaysia is an Islamic state. If Malaysia already an Islamic, PAS is no longer relevant. Umno wants the Malays to think like them but they are wrong.

When PAS captured Kelantan and Terengganu, they tried to introduce an Islamic model of administration. Since the states have power in religion matters (schedule 9 in federal constitution), the PAS government introduced Islamic values to the ruling process, including hudud laws.

Once again, the Umno became worried because the people can make comparisons between itself and PAS. Who really follows the true teaching of Islam now?

LCH is wrong when he thinks what the Kelantan and Terenganu governments have done so far is irrelevant or means nothing. Let us give a chance to both the state government to show their Islamic model of ruling (even though with limited power under the federal constitution). If they don't try now, how do we know what type of Islamic government would come around?

LCH should meet PAS leaders and grassroots voters of the both states to know what is really happening. Do not just accept what RTM , TV3 , NTV7 , News Straits Times , The Star , Utusan Malaysia or Berita Harian reports.

LCH wrote that PAS should "guarantee the elimination of discriminatory policies like the NEP/NDP" if they want non-Muslim votes. The questions here is, who introduced these

policies? Why do non-Muslims continue to vote for BN? Can the non-Muslims show their protest through their votes?
