China visits only mattered to great-granddad
Referring to the letter by Kulat Male ( ' Kenapa pemimpin Umno lawat China sebelum pilihanraya ' ), I would like to make some comments.
First and foremost, it is wrong to generalise that all Chinese in Malaysia are still looking towards China for guidance and inspiration. I am a Malaysian and I am proud to be a Malaysian. Indeed, the advancement of China and towards becoming the economy powerhouse is commendable. As a Chinese Malaysian, I never thought of returning to China and staying there permanently one day.
As for why exactly our beloved political leaders seem to have the tendency to visit China before election, I have no idea. Malaysia is a democratic society, and I strongly believe that our leaders have the rights to do what they think is right and good for our nation. If the premise of Kulat Male is true, he/she must be referring to the era when my great grandfather was fresh out of the boat.
How will the visit of our leader to China effect our upcoming election, I do not know. No matter what the motive is for visiting China, I do think it is good for us to build a strong relationship with China.
