The Say No to Kidex pro-tem committee has voiced our opposition to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) invitation to a briefing on Kidex dated May 15, 2014 at 9.30am when notice to the meeting was only issued on May 9, 2014.

We also protested to MBPJ’s involvement in this ‘town hall meeting’ because Kidex had not supplied MBPJ with the necessary technical documents for the council’s and the residents’ perusal as required under the Town and Country Planning Act.

Because of our protest, MBPJ councillor Lee Suet Sen had taken steps to cancel the meeting and instructed Kidex Sdn Bhd to organise their own briefing without the involvement of MBPJ.

Despite this instruction, the meeting was only postponed one day to May 16, 2014 at 8pm with notice only sent out by Kidex Sdn Bhd on May 14, 2014. In view of the short notice, councillor Lee had assured us that this meeting would not have any legal implications or be used as an attempt to get agreement and approval for the highway project.

However, we were made to understand by a Kidex representative that the meeting called for this Friday was in fact at the behest of MBPJ and that the MBPJ engineering department director would be the chairperson of the meeting. This totally contradicts what councillor Lee had told us.

As such, the Say No to Kidex committee would put on record here that MBPJ is not to participate in this upcoming meeting in any manner as it would prejudice the rights of PJ residents.

As how we got a written assurance from councillor Lee, we would also insist that MBPJ provide a written letter to assure us that this meeting does not involve MBPJ in any way and will not be used in any way to obtain approval for the highway or to change the Petaling Jaya Local Plan 1.
