I refer to Abdul Rahman Abdul Talib's letter , 'PAS' intolerant image due to its strong stand on vice'.

The job of the government of a modern, multi-cultural and industrialising country is no easy task. Not only must it promote economic and scientific development, it must also consider the tricky political situation after the Cold War.

To focus on vice - as PAS has - is certainly avoiding the hard questions that PAS will have to face.

What is PAS' economic and fiscal policy? What is PAS' version of an 'Islamically approved' tourist industry or even the stock market?

How will PAS conduct its foreign policy especially in this post-Cold War era? What is PAS' stand vis-a-vis the Middle East situation given that Malaysia needs investments from America? And the list goes on.

I believe that it is PAS' failure to address these issues adequately - rather than its stand on vice - which is the cause of its intolerant image. By focusing on vice, once again PAS is telling the world that it does not have the political maturity to manage modern Malaysia.
