I can see that there have been many retorts to Muhammad Abdullah's insulting letter . It's good to know that there are people who believe in the youth of this country, instead of underestimating us.

I am a 15-year-old student who just sat for my PMR examinations in October (special note to Muhammad Abdullah, I am actually15 years old), and I would definitely like to give my nod of approval to Patriotic School Leaver . He has voiced out the opinions of many Malaysian students. Our educational system is truly in need of "repair". It is a disgrace.

As I will be in Form 4 next year, I'll definitely take an interest in the new syllabus for History. The new "Islamic-filled" syllabus totally undermines the importance of other historical studies, figures and cultures.

If there is one problem with Malaysians in this day and age, it is the fact that we are quite oblivious to world history. Throughout our syllabus, ranging even from Kajian Tempatan in Standard 5, the topics are mostly based on Malaysian history. Now I'm not saying this is bad, we as citizens of this country should very well know about our nation's ups and downs, but not at the expense of other important knowledge.

Historical events from all around the world bear as much significance as national history. The students should not be led to believe that only the history and facts of our country are important. Details from worldwide catastrophes such as the World Wars, and more should also be taught.

If our country wishes to be an industrial "big-wig" and so forth, our people will definitely need a new and improved educational system.

I also agree with Patriotic School Leaver's statement about Pendidikan Moral being a waste of time, because it truly is. Now I'm sure that our government meant well by making the non-bumiputras study this atrocious excuse for a school subject. However, I must say, that the whole moral studies subject is not exactly taken strongly by the students. Most of us think of it as a joke.

In our current exam status, all that matters in getting an A in Moral Studies is whether you managed to memorise every single line in the book and write it out properly. It doesn't matter whether you agree with anything, it's just the way it is.

Would someone please tell me the point in all this? What in God's name is the point of memorising lines and writing them out exactly as they were printed by the book on an exam to get an A? This issue is most distressing to the students. It also is a waste of time. Students could very well memorising scientific or historical facts that are unquestionably more important.

And lastly, I would just like to say, to our new PM, please, please do a good job. Now, all our hopes and dreams are in your capable hands. Good luck, sir and please don't let us down.
