I am surprised that Farish A Noor, in his letter ' Keadilan should allow alternative Islamic voices to blossom ', had, in a paragraph, accused the DAP of practicing communitarian politics. A learned academic like him should know better than to arrive at such a mischievous conclusion, which is not premised upon facts.

Anyone who care to examine the press statements issued by DAP leaders on the subject of Islamic state would find that the party's very opposition to an Islamic state is premised upon arguments from our nation's historical documents and judicial pronouncements, a fact that Farish should be well aware of. And while the party opposes an Islamic state, it has continually affirmed Islam as the official religion. Farish should therefore give examples to support his contention that DAP adopts a communal mindset.

May I also point out that nowhere in Anas Abdullah's letter is there any mention of DAP's criticism of Islamic state veering towards communitarianism, which Farish appeared to refer to from out of nowhere. As an objective political commentator, Farish should not allow himself to be unwittingly influenced by the views and impressions of those who wish to smear and discredit the DAP.
