Lord Atkin wisely said "power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely "

The above saying reminds me of the statement made by the speaker of the Selangor State Assembly whereby he said that the Selangor government aims to achieve "zero opposition" in the coming general election after the drama between a lone DAP's state assemblyperson and the speaker in the last two days of the sitting.

This shows that some people are confused about the concept of "zero defect" as practised in the manufacturing sector.

In politics, it is undesirable to achieve zero defect politically because no politician is perfect. Even in communist China, there are dissenting votes for major changes in policies during voting in the People's Assembly!

Elsewhere in the world the ruling parties are leading by between 10 to 20 percent margins in majority seats. In Taiwan, the president comes from a different party which controls the Parliament for the first time and yet we do not see any chaos in the political front.

Democracy is not a perfect system but it at least curbs human excesses.
