I find it sad that our politicians have dragged the royalty into disrespect by having the King co-host a dinner with the current Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, in order to show gratitude to former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Prime ministers are political creations. The King should be above politics. Malaysia's King is the people's King and should not be patronising political events. Governments come and go but the Kingship remains. The present government, by dragging the King into their political homages, belittles the royal institution.
