The government is huffing and puffing over the recent spate of violent crimes in Malaysia. Yet, our youth are indifferent and misplaced.

Drugs are prevalent and pornography readily available to anyone with a computer. Our young are looking for role models and fathers who would show them the right way. Many role models in the entertainment industry are not worth two cents and fathers are too busy and hardly at home.

If they were to look at our leaders, here are the top 10 things our young can learn:

  • If my position is one of authority and power, I can always get extra income to facilitate what the other person wants.
  • If I want people to vote for me, give them goodies and lots of it just before elections.
  • It's okay to cheat, just as long as you don't get caught.
  • If you do get caught, make sure you know the right people.
  • If a person is a threat to you, do all you can to humiliate him in public, then jail him.
  • Repeat a lie often enough and everyone will soon believe you.
  • Follow orders even if it goes against your conscience and what you believe to be right.
  • Promote the right people and use the right incentives and they will tow the line and go against their conscience and convictions.
  • If you want to get rich quick, and drive through traffic with outriders, be a minister.
  • If you want to have absolute power in Malaysia, be the prime minister.

There is no use huffing and puffing and creating stricter laws when grown-ups behave amorally, dishonestly and without integrity. I wonder how the three judges sitting over Anwar's appeal case can go home to face their wife and children, let alone the public.
