Do Malaysian companies know how to build roads in hilly areas? It would appear they do not. Remember the good old Karak Highway that had landslides and bad accidents regularly? Now we find out that the Pos Slim - Cameron Highlands road is also badly built.

Another fiasco which is well hidden is the "new road" to Fraser's Hill. I am sure most readers will say "what new road?". It starts about 1km after the old Gap road and ends near the Fraser's Pine Resort. It was completed about five years ago and left unused for about two years due to repeated landslides.

Then it was in use for a while (I do not know how long but I did use it once in December 2001). During my last visit in March 2003 it was closed again.

Why is the government giving these road building contracts to these incompetent companies again and again? I think everybody knows the answer.
