I have read with some consternation the acquittal of the two lance corporals of the rape of (former camp detainee) Angelica. The Sessions Court judge Nurchaya Arshad was clever to say there was "no corroborative evidence" called by the prosecution, the judge was left wondering if whether there had been a rape! What a lot of hogwash.

In the first place, there was clear admission that the incident took place. This in itself is more than enough to prove the existence of "corroborative evidence". When a human being (an underaged female to boot} is incarcerated, it is not licence for captors to assault. So, my fellow Malaysians, what shall we do about it?

Ms Fernandez has reacted sharply - let us hope she does not get clobbered again. Can we not immediately begin a campaign of national and international proportions to have the matter reviewed?

Or are we going to keep quiet because the victim is a nobody? She is someone's child, she is a Malaysian, she is a human being, and she is one of God's creatures. Yet, we have allowed her to be abused.

I sincerely hope the judge will search her conscience and wake up to the sin that has been committed.
