It is interesting why MCA finds a sudden interest in educating its BN partners on the importance of Chinese schools. I have always wondered why the party has been so quiet about its struggles? It is evident that there is an enrolment surge in Chinese schools because of two reasons: growth of the China economy and poor standards in Kebangsaan schools. At least these are among the reasons why I sent my child to a Chinese school.

I have always complained why most Chinese schools, including the newly-built SRJK Chee Wen USJ1, have to raise funds to build their own building. Parents have to raise funds to build, fund the chairs and tables, teachers' desk, etc.

The BN government gave the approval to move the school from Kuala Selangor, which we have to be forever indebted and grateful and RM500,000, or 15 percent of the entire cost of setting up the school. The rest are personally funded by taxpayers! I am told that this is no different from the SRJK Tamil. Their allocation is even harder to come by.

If there is one thing I have learnt from the last general election, it is that any promise made three months before the elections can be discounted and ignored. There were some good 48 months for them to do something and to speak up. Where we put our money shows our values as a nation.

Canggih skyscrapers, mildew stained olympic village and a dam that generates more electricity than the whole of Malaysia will need is not going to build responsible, morally-upright young children.

Money should instead be used for upgrading teachers pay and paying the police force well so that they will not look to other illegal channels of making money. Invest in our schools and education system, hospitals and the police force now before it is too late.

So MCA, forget the lip service and sandiwara (charade). The Chinese Association of Schools (Dong Jiao Zong) which angered Dr Mahathir Mohamad during the last general election was called 'communists' and told to return to China. The former premier has, to date, not apologised for that derogatory remark.
