I read with contempt the letter asking for a ban on open burning (' Put a lid on open burning '). Why is there any need to do what has been done for centuries with no harmful effect, until the day the letter writer Jeff Ng decides to drive a car.

Is his life more precious than the farmer's? It is the farmer who will be feeding him with rice, not the other way round. So please don't feel smug with your car or lorry. You want to drive? My farmer wants to live. Is that a typical moronic reaction to a self-created problem?

As for me, give me rice anytime, but you can still drive your car in my smokescreen. Bother not the gracious farmers, and they shall not bother you.

Where is the minister in charge of farmer's affairs? Seems he is meek and weak compared to the minister in charge of driver's affairs.

So carry on farming, and let us put a ban on driving!
