The arrest of Eric Chia demonstrates once again that the Anti-Corruption Agency must not be beholden to the Prime Minister's Department. The facts of the case against Chia remain the same, whether these took place during the former prime minister's administration or that of the new prime minister.

Yet there was no prosecution in one case and prosecution in the other.

If the prime minister is trully serious about fighting corruption, he should change the law to make the ACA accountable only to the people, i.e, to Parliament. If he does this, I am absolutely sure even the opposition will vote for him in the next election.
