One of the first thing that Dr Mahathir Mohamad did when he became prime minister was to release almost all non-communist political detainees under the ISA. While applauding that move as a hopeful sign for democracy, a seasoned opposition figure reminded the public then, that it could also mean that there are now plenty of vacant cells in Kamunting for new entrants.

Mahathir did not disappoint him as proven by 'Operation Lalang' and so forth. The cells were filled up till now.

Now, just barely 100 days as PM, Pak Lah is giving us hope by dragging big names to court to face corruption charges. How wonderful, and he certainly deserves our support. Perhaps soon there will be plenty of vacancies in his inherited cabinet - to be filled by Pak Lah's own diehards.

What a convenient and vote-getting way to 'clean-up' the house. Until the attorney-general's file on Rafidah Aziz sees the light of day in court, what is seen now is selective prosecution nonetheless. But after 22 years of Mahathir's blatant disregard for public accountability, I guess half an apple is better than none.
