PSM must realise their appeal and constituency is with the Indian community which they have worked with laudable diligence and consistency. The fact remains that the Indian community does not vote for PSM when it comes to general elections because of Samy Vellu's overwhelming influence and intimidation. If this is the reality, PSM then cannot behave as though it 'owns' Sungai Siput, as it has not delivered the Indian vote, which is its natural constituency.

PSM standing on a DAP ticket no doubt did enhance its chances in the last election, because it was partly riding on the back of the prestige and track record of the DAP. In a three-cornered fight, the opposition votes will largely come from Malay and Chinese voters. As a party which is not registered and has similar ideology to the DAP, the PSM candidate as an independent, will lose ignominiously because voters will naturally want the 'safest bet' to oust Samy Vellu.

It has never been made clear by PSM how its philosophy and ideology differs from that of the DAP. If it is purely about personal glory, then PSM should not expect a helping hand from other opposition parties.
