There is nothing odd or peculiar about Terengganu MB Abdul Hadi Awang's comments on Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's sudden change in style in portraying himself as an Islamist. The PM was involved in politics for many years and never did he ever quote verses from the Koran in his earlier speeches as he did recently. These speeches were then aired over RTM repeatedly, especially the part where the verses from the Koran were quoted as if there is a certain agenda .

In fact, this has been a topic in coffee shops for observant people. Like these people too, Abdul Hadi Awang sensed something odd and he was just trying to remind the people to be aware of what the BN government was up to.

The teaching of Islam is very clear in that it is more appropriate for a son to be the imam in a prayer before burials rather than any other prayers. To me there is nothing wrong for Haji Hadi to remind us about that. Being an ustaz he is duty bound by the teachings of Islam to do that. He would be committing a sin if he fails to do so unless of course if he has other ulterior motives.

Who are we to be able to read his mind? Let us give him the benefit of the doubt. Stop slandering him although we may not agree on his political struggle.
