I was a first-time voter in 1999. When I presented my IC at a registration counter at the polling station, the officer on duty checked the roll and declared that my name was not in the list. I told her that I had checked SPR (Election Commission) website , my name was there and my polling station was correct. She then told me to go to another counter 30 feet away.

At the second counter, I gave my IC to another officer and he did the same, running through a roll and declaring that my name was not in the list. I was furious and told him off sternly. Then, he bent sideways and pulled out another register from under the table. My name was located in this hidden register and I was then allowed to go in to vote.

And when I reached the polling booth, there was a BN name card on the table!
