I refer to DAP chairman Lim Kit Siang's proposal for a merger between DAP and Keadilan.

On the surface, it sounds great but I think in his heart of hearts, Kit Siang also knows very well that the proposal is a trick to break up the Barisan Alternatif to benefit Umno.

Why should Keadilan merge with DAP? Just because it is now reduced to only one parliamentary seat? I think if Kit Siang thinks this way, he has wrongly estimated the willpower of Keadilan's top leaders and loyalists to fight on despite their temporary defeat. Keadilan is not that short-sighted or myopic.

If we look at Keadilan's list of candidates carefully again, we will find that Keadilan has many men and women of quality who are willing and able to fight. In the long run, Keadilan can offer many more highly-qualified Malaysians to serve the cause of multiethnic opposition.

True, Keadilan's candidates might not be that experienced yet but given another five years and after they have settled down in their constituencies and understand the political game more, I am sure they can perform much better than now.

But maybe Kit Siang has realised this long-term potential of Keadilan too. And that may be his reason for trying to swallow up Keadilan before it poses a threat to DAP's survival in the near future.

Both Kit Siang and Karpal Singh are ageing, its secretary-general Kerk Kim Hock has been defeated in DAP's own stronghold, while the party's media-star Fong Po Kuan is still too young to take over a higher responsibility.

I think Kit Siang should focus on rebuilding his own party and attack Umno/BN first before playing psywar games with Keadilan. You are too smart by half.
