I read with interest Sarawakian in UK's letter . I do not like racists like BlueRider but I do believe that Umno is not a menace to Malaysia and there is no harm if Umno comes to Sarawak just as it has come to Sabah.
That is if the PBB, Snap, SPDP, PBDS, PRS, and Star all dissolve and agree to become Umno Sarawak - just as Berjaya, Usno, Aka dissolved and agreed to become Umno Sabah. I am all for an Umno that includes all indigenous peoples of Sarawak and Sabah.
Sabahans and Sarawakians can make their way to the premiership easier with Umno in the states.
Salleh Tun Said Keruak, a Bajau, was an Umno supreme council member. Pandikar Amin Mulia, a Kadazan-Dusun, became a cabinet minister in Kuala Lumpur too.
Tun Mustapha Harun, a Bajau, also became a cabinet minister via Umno a year before he died in 1995. Anifah Aman, a Bruneian-Kadazan-Dusun, is a deputy minister in Kuala Lumpur as an Umno member. He is the brother of Berjaya strongman Ayub Aman.
Sarawakian Chinese did not get the same citizenship rights as the Malays of Peninsular Malaysia or the natives of Sarawak such as the Ibans, Melanaus, Orang Ulus, Bidayuhs and Sarawak Malays (Bruneians). They got the same citizenship rights as the Chinese of Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia, namely as non-bumiputeras.
Nevertheless, non-bumiputeras have the rights as Malaysians which bumiputeras, especially Peninsular Malays, have no right to trample upon.
Umno is not prevented from entering Sarawak. It has not entered Sarawak yet because PBB, Snap, Star, SPDP, PBDS and PRS have not yet agreed to form Umno Sarawak.
Once Umno enters Sarawak there will be no stopping it. And Umno means no harm to Sarawak because if it comes into Sarawak it will have to take the form of existing state political parties comprising the Muslim and non-Muslim indigenous peoples of Sarawak.
Sabah Umno has Kadazan-Dusuns both Christian and Muslim, Bajaus who are Muslim and Bruneians who are Muslim.
Umno in Borneo will not be dominated by Malay immigrants from Peninsular Malaysia because the special autonomous rights of Sabah and Sarawak are strongly defended by all Sarawakians and Sabahans.
If Umno comes into Sarawak, its members will be Ibans, Melanaus, Orang Ulus, Bidayuhs, Sarawak Malays and even Chinese-Dayak.
This is the scenario in Sabah where Umno Sabah members are Kadazan-Dusuns, Bajaus, Muruts, Bruneians and Kedayans, all indigenous peoples. Even Sino-natives are Umno members.
