Elections have come again and gone. And for many it is back to, as Phil Collins' song goes, ' Just Another Day in Paradise.'

Despite the irregularities in the election process and the disgruntled opposition, we all know that any legal recourse the opposition takes stands as good a chance as a snowflake in the Sahara.

Malaysians, as British PM Tony Blair likes to put it, would like to "draw a line and move on."

I, like many, share that sentiment as there is no point in now looking backwards. We are truly now up the proverbial creek with only one paddle and can only pray that Pak Lah keeps his promises.

However after listening to his new cabinet line-up, I was overwhelmed with a strange sense of deja vu , as if I've been here before. Ladies and gentlemen, we have been well and truly duped and it is time to wake up from our pleasant dreams.

We had voted with our hearts rather than our heads. Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's new cabinet could easily have been a one that Mahathir would have picked. The 'family' has been kept intact and not only that, it has also been extended.

The choice of some ministers and their ministries also has me dumbfounded. For example, after all the controversy in education, Pak Lah picked Hishammuddin Hussein Onn to head it. I must be missing something here but then again we have Azalina Othman Said for sports. Come on, Pak Lah!

I will leave the analysis to others but right now I know what it feels like to be the reconciled wife finding out that her husband is still up to his philandering ways, rather silly for even hoping that he can and will change.

Pak Lah has kept to his mild-mannered and non-confrontational ways and 'ducked'. He says he needs more time but if it is not now, then when? In politics five years goes by fast and already he has failed his first big test miserably.
