The arrest of the two ex-members of parliament by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) for corruption in allegedly abusing their mileage and hotel claims shows that only those who happen to be on the 'wrong' side of the fences will face official prosecution.

Those who are on the 'right' side of the fence can rest assure that as long as they remain 'faithful and obedient' members of parliament, they will be immune from prosecutions.

It seems ironical that our ministers can abuse their privileges by using public-funded government machineries during the recent polls and that this does not subscribe to the scrutiny of the ACA while the oppositions party members are hounded like common criminals due to a gray area with regards to their mileage claims.

Does this episode means that Barisan Nasional members of parliaments are squeaky clean and do not abuse their privileges? What about the promise made by our leaders that corruption cases against 'big fishes' will be brought soon. Seems like a tall fisherman's tale to me.

Another news which should interest the ACA is the report about an Umno bigwig who was asked to pay RM11 million to his ex-wife after a bitter court case. With due respect, if I was a Felcra settler, I would be awestruck to see my so-called 'guardian angel' living a pompous and elegant lifestyle while we settlers wallow in poverty.

If a chairman of a government body can be worth so much, you don't have to be rocket scientist to figure out how the other upper rungs of elite society are worth. The ACA should pay a visit on this person and find out what entitles him to have so vast a fortune.

In the meantime, we can only await for the coming Umno polls this June where the movers and shakers of the grandest party in this country meet to anoint their president and deputy president.

After that, the prime minister will then have the clout to get rid of his tainted and corrupt ministers both in the party and government. Hopefully after these 'real polls', he has the political and moral will to walk the talk and practice what he preaches, God willing.
