EC pulling wool over our eyes
As far as I am concerned the findings of the Election Commission (EC) into its recent foul-ups are not legitimate and hence not acceptable to me. The probe, as had been pointed out by many of us, should have been conducted by an independent commission appointed by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong or if not, at least by the Parliament.
I am totally confounded by the lack of appreciation as to the sanctity and sensitivity of the position of the EC in our system of democracy. It must be totally independent and impartial and must be regarded as almost scared.
Its credibility and acceptability is based on it being right or wrong and as such, equally important is its credibility. If its senior officials have lost their credibility, they must have the honour to resign and save the EC, a fundamental political institution of the country.
We are allowing the EC to pull out wool over our eyes by expecting the results of their internal probe to be impartial and acceptable to all. This is a sacrilege and it would be naive for us to accept.
