Here in my college hostel in the United States, I have 2 C-Span channels dedicated to providing public access to the political process.

Say what you may about American politics, at the very least, the people have the freedom to flip on their cable TV and watch debates in both houses of Congress, among other events.

It is my dream that one day Malaysia can have a similar non-profit organisation which gives us a peek into the Dewan Rakyat into what our elected representatives are doing in our name with our tax money.

Here in America, C-Span brings the audience into the proceedings, as if you are right there on the Senate floor. There are no commercials and little or no commentary. This way viewers can get the full unedited (and unbiased) story right there on their television screens instead on relying on other controlled media.

C-Span for Malaysia would really work. Our government should not really be inconvenienced by this, as it only involve a video camera here and there. And if handled by an independent non-profit organisation, the government won't have to pay any costs.

That is, of course, if viewers are willing to pay for the service or some form of sponsorship is obtained.

I think we have to be fully aware how decisions are made in our Dewan Rakyat before we can try to change things and improve our country. For what is a government of the people if the people are not fully informed about the government?
