This is a follow up on my letter published under the title MyKad Fiasco at Ipoh .

To recap, I went to the Ipoh branch of the Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) with my mother to collect our MyKads which we applied for in January. I was told that my MyKad had been collected by someone in Petaling Jaya.

After further checking, I was informed that there were no records of either my mom's or my particulars in the JPN's computer system. Due to this, we would have to re-apply.

I refused to do so without a reasonable explanation and ended up meeting the Penolong Pengarah who personally checked and finally found our records. However, our MyKads were not ready and we were told to come back in three weeks' time.

I ended up contacting the DAP elected representative for Batu Gajah, Fong Poh Kuan, and an appointment was made with the Pengarah for 9am on April 20. I finally met the Tuan Pengarah on this date at about 9.30am along with another DAP representative, Su Keong Siong and another of their fellow party members whose name I must apologise for not remembering.

The Tuan Pengarah, Tuan Haji Zainuddin received us courteously with open hands. We, likewise, discussed the problems that MyKad applicants were facing courteously. Tuan Haji frequently used the excuse, ' Apa boleh buat ?' said in a soft-spoken voice, accompanied with a long sigh.

When I asked for an explanation as to why my mom's and my records were not found in their system but only later discovered after I complained to his deputy, he politely ignored my question. He then took down my mom's and my own personal details saying that he or his staff would call us when our MyKads were ready.

I take this opportunity to 'thank' the Tuan Haji for such his pledge and for his concern. I guess I am a lot luckier than other ordinary rakyat who will normally have to pay a few visits and spend quite some time waiting only to be told later that their MyKads are not ready yet so come back another day.

I sincerely thank Ms Fong, Mr Su and their fellow party member for showing their concern in this case. I also hope that Ms Fong will highlight the numerous problems faced by Perak MyKad applicants during the coming parliamentary session.

Maybe after highlighting the matter in parliament, Ms Fong, like the Tuan Pengarah, can say ' Apa boleh buat ?' But, Ms Fong, please remember to give a long sigh after uttering this sentence for more effect!
