I have finally found wisdom in a statement from a Barisan Nasional member of parliament. For a change there is an MP from the BN side who is actually doing his job and not just warming his parliamentary seat by agreeing to the prime minister's every word.

Kota Bahru MP Zaid Ibrahim understands the situation of the state of affairs in Malaysia. The prime minister's position, after 22 years, has usurped the power of every branch of government and reduced them to mere rubber stamps.

Zaid only singled out the judiciary. There is the question of the Royal Malaysian Police, the Election Commission and the Anti-Corruption Agency. It seems that the man-on- the-street is often cynical when it comes to any faith or trust in any of the above branches of government.

Our previous prime minister never did like confrontation or healthy competition and so he did away with any form of accountability and ensured his rivals were personally destroyed or relegated to political wilderness i.e. Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Musa Hitam and, of course, Anwar Ibrahim.

Zaid said that one day, we may cry for justice and the court's protection and when that day comes, we will want a impartial court with full authority for sure, as well as judges imbued with integrity and responsibility.

Unfortunately, we, the public, have cried for justice for the last 10 years but no one seem to hear us.

Mothers with dead sons under police custody cry for justice every day, mothers and wives of ISA detainees plead for justice every day, the family of former Umno politician Anwar Ibrahim cry for justice every day and simple citizens of Malaysia cry for justice each day when they have to deal with government agencies which have let them down.

When Puas gives us dirty water and dares to charge us for it when we can get the same water from our drains and rivers, where do we go? There are so many other issues but to whom do we turn to? There is no one.

So Mr MP of Kota Bahru, while your observation is true, the rot is deeper than you think. Of course you will not experience this first-hand as where ever you and your BN colleagues are, you will consider a VIP to be shielded from the common people.
