I refer to the letter posted in malaysiakini by Ratha Mathivanan entitled Uthayakumar on an ego trip .

Before we move further, I would like to ask the writer one question: Does he/she really know what actually transpired before arriving to such a frivolous conclusion? Did he/she ever call P Uthayakumar to seek his side of the story before writing the letter?

Firstly, we must approach this issue in the light of the chain of events that Uthayakumar went through. He had been subjected to assault and battery. As I observe, Uthaya had indeed been taking up these police abuse of power cases seriously and that is the reason some quarters have an interest in retaliating.

I am not a supporter of Uthaya but if you put his situation to a reasonable man's test, would anyone inflict hurt upon himself (based on the photos ) just for mere, I quote, 'cheap publicity in Britain'.

I see this whole spate of events as concerted efforts to suppress a man who is highly dedicated to his principles and his compassion for mankind. If this is 'cheap publicity', are we also to say that what Mahatma Gandhi did during his struggle for India's independence such as his hunger strikes and his Salt March were also stunts for 'cheap publicity'?

No, they weren't. They were a vision of a great soul to provide freedom for his people.

I believe Uthaya is also tuned to that direction. Remember, good motives, sincerity and infinite love can conquer this world. One soul whom possess all these three virtues, can destroy the Doric designs of a million brutes and hypocrites.

I leave to the writer to choose, which he/she prefers - a great soul or brutes.
