Dr G Walter's letter Enough of bumiputera bashing sounds like it was written in anger. I read it with interest and noted that a few points were, intentionally or otherwise, ignored.

I agree that there had been many letters that knocked bumiputeras and the NEP, but I do hope the Walter truly understands the situation. The conclusion made that LCH's views are a minority may be a serious mistake.

It may be wrong to base this on my own personal experience but the fact is that most, if not all, of the non-bumis I know since my schooling days (I'm working now), have complaints against the NEP. This should be worrying.

Telling LCH to leave the country simply because he doesn't like it is crude. You don't leave your country of birth because you don't like it. You try to change it for the better because you love it.

I also hope Walter understands the reasons behind the grouses the letter writers have. It is really difficult to sit quietly by when the number of bright students who get sidelined increase every year.

It is difficult to understand why the best we have to offer lose out to the near-best of others.

Would you honestly choose a B-grade product of brand A over an A-grade product of brand B if there are no differences besides the brand name and popularity?

I also do agree that we have an election system in place. But I do wonder if Walter is aware of all the controversies and negative allegations that surround our general elections - not just the most recent one.

And as to why non-bumis decided to stick with the current government despite the dissatisfaction, let me share a phrase to describe the situation - the lesser of two evils.

Most non-bumis would rather face the familiar risk of being sidelined by race rather than face the potentially dangerous risk of being sidelined by religion.

And finally, regarding why these issues weren't brought up, let me ask you: Would you have voted for the party that proposes to do away with special rights and quotas that are to your benefit?

Do consider both sides in more detail, Walter.
