Lately Malaysia is slowly tuning into an animal farm from the looks of it.
It reminds me the satirical tale by the same name written by George Orwell where animals revolted against their human owners and believed that "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others".
How it resembles our beloved country is as follows:
- First there was a shocking news in December 2014 whereby two Malayan tigers escaped its pen for three hours before it was found at the nearby Taiping Lake Gardens and tranquilised. It happened around Christmas where Malaysian were busy celebrating Christmas.
Perhaps the Malayan tigers thought that since all the animals are equal, but considered themselves more equal than others, therefore they could be going for the yuletide celebration even though some VVIP called Isma in our midst declared it's un-Islamic to wish Christians 'Merry Christmas' and forbade them to go to the open house during this festive season.
The central characters in the Animal Farm novel are two pigs called Napoleon and Snowball. As Snowball is determined to teach the other animal to read and write, therefore the wild boar may have been emulating Snowball’s fervour and would have thought it would be great borrowing some reading materials for the lessons from MMU library.
Unfortunately, the noble effort being thwarted by the quick thinking university authorities.
He even called her a "cat" and coincidently cat also plays an integral role in Animal Farm , where cats never seen to carry out any work, the cat is absent for long periods, and is forgiven because her excuses are so convincing and she "purred so affectionately that it was impossible not to believe in her good intentions".
(Maybe from here Ibrahim might have got the idea she is available for a date !)
The cat has no interest in the politics of the farm, and the only time she is recorded as having participated in an election, she is found to have actually "voted on both sides".
In a forum, Sophie dissed Ibrahim yet later hailed him as a " communication genius ".
Unfortunately, the only animal not mentioned in the Animal Farm novel is the frog!
