Calling for flood recovery volunteers
I'm sending a little shout out because you once signed up for volunteering opportunities/updates. We're starting post-flood relief, and are putting together plans to rebuild. However, step one is to head down to devastated areas and to assist with cleanup.
If you're interested, our relief partner Incitement is conducting weekly cleanups and are looking for extra hands this weekend and next.
The hype is over, but the real work starts now. Donating goods, clothes and items for our flood victims is a good gesture; as a matter of fact, it's a great gesture. But to utilise these donated goods and funds to its fullest, a clean up of the muds, stains, road clearing and rebuilding their lost asset is much needed. Best of all, it's the best means to re-captivate the belief in the people.
They have space for 20 to 25 people each weekend, starting this Saturday, Feb 7, 2015. Please forward this on to anyone you know who might be available and keen on helping out. Do register asap!
You can register here and their lead coordinator Fatima Khair ( fatima@theincitement.com ) will get in touch. Everything is paid for, except for transport which is RM13. They'll provide food, water, equipment and all the necessities.
JAYNE KENNEDY is in charge of relationships and communications for Extraordinary People Impacting Community ( EPIC ).
