Lim dynasty can't plead ignorance on hudud
Former deputy prime minister Musa Hitam has rightly pointed out that DAP was in the know that PAS had been firm on its stance on hudud all along. So Lim Kit Siang should stop pretending to be ignorant and innocent when he had compromised the rights of all non-Muslims.
How is DAP parliamentary leader Kit Siang going to answer to himself when he carries out some sould-searching and stumbles upon the very last words of former party chairperson Karpal Singh?
We recall vividly that the late Karpal had on many occasions reiterated his strong objection to hudud and wanted the party to be wary of PAS. Sadly, his urgings were construed, or rather misconstrued as his personal opinion. His calls fell unto the deaf ears of party de facto leaders Kit Siang and his son Lim Guan Eng.
Before the 13th general election, MCA repeatedly alerted the electorate at large of PAS' dangerous theocratic state ambition. Surely Kit Siang did not want to agree with us, but what about the sincere advice from his comrade Karpal, who fought alongside him through thick and thin?
The only logical explanation to this is that Guan Eng was all geared-up to assume the DPM's post should Pakatan Rakyat take over Putrajaya then. He must have thought that the Malay votes were of paramount importance to him to achieve his life-time ambition, so much so that he was even prepared for all DAP candidates to contest under PAS' banners.
For his selfish agenda, Guan Eng could stoop so low to secretly accept PAS' hudud agenda and even went all-out to cosmeticise the Islamist party when MCA pointed the danger of voting in potential hardliners. How could he justify his claim of innocence and 'un-expectation' now?
Amidst the passing of Karpal last year, DAP claimed that there would emerge thousands more Karpal Singhs. But we have not seen one who could put up a brave face and stand up to PAS thus far. What we see is only the duo who can only pretend to be victims begging for sympathy – ie, the Lims.
