Most of the criticisms towards the larger than usual conferments of Datukships have been from existing Datuks and Tan Sris who see more of these titles being awarded as somewhat of a threat. Sometimes we Malaysians can be a bit selfish.

Also note that many new Datukship awards are just 'repeat' awards to existing Datuks.

Nowadays, having just one Datukship is not enough. One needs to have a string of Datukships, preferably one from each of the rulers, one from each of the governors and one or two from the federal government.
