Malaysians overseas are ready for the 34-hour Bersih 4 rally and will be joining a countdown campaign of the historic event that will once again bring Malaysians across the globe together for a common cause.

With just six days or 144 hours to go, Bersih 2.0, Bersih Shanghai and Global Bersih hereby jointly launch the Bersih Global Countdown Campaign leading up to the rally that will kick-off at 2pm on Aug 29 in Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and major cities across the globe.

This global campaign will see fellow Malaysians in overseas joining the countdown to the mammoth rally by declaring their commitment to take part in Bersih 4 rallies scheduled to be held in their residing cities.

Overseas Malaysians are encouraged to take picture with a special designed poster telling the world that they are ready for Bersih 4. The simple act would serve as a powerful show of solidarity with fellow Malaysians back home as well as a strong support for Bersih 4 rally and its five demands, namely clean elections, clean governments, right to dissent, strengthening parliamentary democracy and saving the economy of the country.

With these individual initiatives, we hope to create a strong yellow wave for change throughout the world.

In the past couple of weeks, we have seen momentum building up strongly ahead of Bersih 4 rally. While Bersih 2.0 committee is currently promoting the event through a series of ‘Jelajah Bersih’ talks across the country, non-governmental organisations are also organising various public events such as flash mobs, cycling events to draw public attention on the upcoming event.

Apart from donating for the cause, ordinary citizens are also doing their parts by distributing leaflets at night markets and their neighbourhoods to encourage more people to come forward and join hands for a better future of Malaysia.

While fellow Malaysians from all walks of life queue up at Bersih office everyday for Bersih 4 T-shirt, thousands of concerned netizens who are appalled by the gross mismanagement and blatant abuse of power of the regime of the day, including the 1MDB scandal involving RM42 billion debts and the baffling RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ landed in the prime minister’s personal account, have also pledged their commitment to join the Bersih 4 rally.

With the fast growing support for Bersih 4, there are also increasing number of people started to brave the intimidation from the regime and speak up openly against the abuse of power by the regime. Such empowerment process resembles hope for the nation.

Meanwhile, upon witnessing blatant corruptions back home, increasing number of overseas Malaysians are contributing to the cause by joining global solidarity movement for Bersih and funding local movements. Malaysians in different parts of the world will once again show to the international community that we are determined for change and we will fight for the future of our beloved motherland.

In conjunction with the campaign, a countdown clock will be put up on Malaysiakini websites starting from Aug 23 to 2pm Aug 29 - the official kickoff time of Bersih 4 rally. The ticking clock symbolises our hearts that beat at the same rate as each second passing by. Despite differences in time zone, Malaysians across the globe will once again come together as ONE for a better Malaysia through simultaneous Bersih 4 rallies in major cities in the world.

Hidup Bersih! Hidup Malaysia!
