I have often wondered, what makes a genuine bumiputera? In Sabah, we have Chinese- Kadazandusun's who have attained bumi status but we also have as Indonesians who recently attained Malaysian citizenship and enjoying the bumi status and all the gifts that go along with it.

Many of these Indonesians are making good money in Malaysia as taxi-drivers and bus-drivers, taking away valuable jobs from the local Kadazandusun community. As many know, Sabah is one of the poorest states in Malaysia.

My question would be this: how does the government distinguish between a bumiputera as opposed to a Muslim foreigner who has just attained Malaysian citizenship? If one is an Indonesian or Bosnian Muslim, does it mean they are automatically bumiputeras when they get Malaysian citizenship?

I am very confused as to where our government stands on this issue.
