The annual FreedomFilmFest is back for its 13th year and is launching its campaign to promote human rights through films. The theme for 2015 is ‘Unseen, Unheard, Untold’, representing the unravelling of the many sides to a story that have yet to be seen, heard or told.

This year, 14 carefully selected films will be screened in Penang over three days, from Oct 16 to 18, at Hin Bus Depot, Luma and Kampung Tok Suboh at Bukit Mertajam respectively. Details of the screening are as below.

FreedomFilmFest (FFF) strives to be a platform for individuals on both sides of the lens to tell their stories. Films are selected to showcase a range of unique works, putting equal emphasis on artistic value and human rights content.

Present along with their films in Penang are David Buri, the filmmaker for ‘Viral, Sial!’ which uses the BFM Kupas issue which went viral on the internet to discuss the relationship between society and social media; Chan Seong Foong & Victor Chin, the filmmakers for ‘Memory as Resistance: Grandma Kong Defending Her Village’ about the demolition of the 100-year old Kg Hakka in Mantin, Negri Sembilan; J Arrivu Jacob, the filmmaker of ‘Di Sebalik Runcit’ about the effect of big corporations on small grocery shops; and Nizam Andan, the filmmaker for ‘Sindiket’, on stateless people.

In FFF, we believe that understanding comes along with discussion, thus a facilitated discussion will be conducted after the screening of each film, enabling the audience to share their views.
