Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ), Malaysia’s most celebrated minister, hit the bullseye when he said that ministers should avoid making senseless remarks . The entire nation has been saying this for quite a while. However, this common sense does not seem common among many ministers in the country. In fact, KJ himself has made senseless remarks.

When the Health Ministry raided unregulated vape e-fluids, KJ too jumped to the defence of the vape industry. He urged an end to confiscation of vape juices until there are rules in place to regulate them. He defended vape businessmen by saying they invested a lot of money, and the raiding of e-fluids will affect businesses badly. KJ added that if vape is to be banned, so should cigarettes.

Firstly, nobody is speaking about banning vaping. The ministry had to take drastic actions because the vape industry was growing magnanimously. Nobody knows the repercussions of vaping, and if action were not taken things would go out of hand. Even CNN today has come out with a video to showcase the problem with vaping. School children are vaping because they is no rule with regards to age limit.

Was KJ suggesting to keep allowing them to vape till rules are in place?

Remember what happened in the Future Music Festival Asia (FMFA) 2014 concert in Bukit Jalil where deaths occurred? Why did the ministry immediately put a ban on Electro-Dance Music (EDM) concerts? There were no rules in place on banning EDM before that, so why did the ministry react abruptly? Were there any discussions held with promoters from the EDM industry before setting a ban?

How was it okay for KJ at that time, but not this time when it involves health? Is it because lives were lost during FMFA? Is KJ suggesting that a life should be lost first and only then action should be taken?

What if a group of businessmen invest huge amount of money to come up with a new party drug that is not banned, and its effects unknown? Is KJ going to suggest that they should be allowed to sell such drugs in the open because there is no regulation for it? Wait for a few people to lose their life and only then take precautionary measures?

Khairy should just concentrate on his ministry before budding into another. With a second whipping from Palestine, what is KJ doing about FAM? KJ previously threatened to take serious action on FAM being the sole representative of national soccer if things don’t change. Has anything happened?

FAM is still on a roll of humiliating the country in the world of soccer. Has KJ come up with any plans on regulating FAM and Malaysian soccer? Is FAM too big even for the sports minister? If that is so, then Khairy has failed, and he should resign from his post. Perhaps he should be given a smaller, less important ministry.

Forget soccer, every sport in Malaysia has taken a tumbling. Is our sports minister too busy with commercial shoots and is not paying enough attention on proper work? Since taking over the Youth and Sports Ministry, the ever-so-dynamic Khairy has nothing to shout about. A serious revamp took place in the National Sports Council.

However, when the big mess-up occurred with the treatment of Lee Chong Wei that resulted in an unnecessary ban, nothing happened to personnel of the National Sports Institute. Why the double standards, KJ?

Khairy should pay attention to running his ministry well before harping on anything else. Till date, Malaysian sports are crying out for help. Results speak for themselves, and we have nothing to be proud of with our sports on the international platform today.
