The various complaints against unfair practices by Malaysian banks as highlighted by malaysiakini , though timely, are just the tip of the iceberg. Banks have had their way for as long as banks have existed in Malaysia.

It was not too bad until a few years when the so-called mergers began. Frankly, I do not know whose idea it was to merge banks. If merging is advisable, we might as well merge all clinics, private hospitals, legal firms, architects firms, shopping malls and yes, even all the coffee shops.

We might as well abandon all business enterprises and let everything be owned by the state.

The banking merger exercise has done more bad than good. Banks have now ceased to be service oriented. The managers will tell you direct and straight on your face: 'Don't come to us if you don't have money. And if you have the money, don't see us too, just go to the teller machines and deal with them'.

This is how ridiculous the situation has become and Bank Negara is directly responsible for it. It is time the government severs itself from Bank Negara.

Allow it to change its name and be supported by commercial banks themselves. Bank Negara has definitely failed the rakyat. I propose the government removes the governor if it wants to maintain any credibility.
