I refer to the letter Penang - who should stop the rot?

In my humble opinion, it is the people in charge or powers-that-be in Penang that must take full responsibility. I am sure it is not too hard to accept this view.

The current state government, which has governed since the early 90s, has brought about only scant progress to Penang. Take a look at our Penang Bridge. It is already unable to cope with traffic. But what has the state government done so far? Do we have to wait another 20 years for this to be resolved?

Take another look at the Jelutong Expressway. It was supposed to have been completed last century. But now the state government says it is only scheduled to be completed in 2006. Then there is the long-delayed elevated expressway along Jalan Sungei Nibong to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah. It was supposed to have been completed by the middle of this year, even with additional works.

But the way it is going, one would be forgiven for saying that it looks like it will take another three years to complete.

Then there is Penang Outer Ring Road (Porr) project . This will take another 20 years, I think. And on top of that, it is going to be awarded to a company without financial resources and without any expertise and experience with such projects.

Something is very wrong with the way Penang is being governed. As such, in my humble opinion, the Penang state government under its present leadership has to take full responsibility for Penang's sad state of affairs.
