I am surprised and somewhat appalled that newspapers have allowed misleading photos of donors to be published, especially on Page 6 of New Straits Times (Dec 31).

I say so as it is taking away the credit and big-hearted gestures being made by people individually from their own pocket. The NST's group editor-in-chief himself made a personal donation and did not take credit for the donation his company - or companies - have given.

If it is the company which is donating, then it is not correct and fair to list the names of individuals and publish their photographs as they are merely a conduit for their company's funds. In this matter, the much maligned MAS was very honourable in only using its logo alone.

If I am a chairman of a listed company, it is no sweat writing out a cheque for RM300,000 or RM1 million, it is those who burn a hole in their pocket by contributing their personal money - such as those from the Gerbang Perdana who donated 10 percent of their December salary - who are really 'the million-ringgit heart' .

I hope the newspapers will correctly give credit where it is due instead of allowing certain individuals to pass off their company's funds as personal contributions.
