I too am equally concerned by the lack of a sense of urgency amongst the relevant authorities in Malaysia.
On the day of the devastation, none of our TV stations had on-going commentaries on what was happening. All programmes were running as usual and the news bulletins were even more disappointing. The newscasters were their usual jovial self and none had the devastation in the northern as a headline.
Where was our information minister! He should have been there to organise the daily updates.
Viewers in the south were more fortunate as they had Singapore television to switch to. The republic was broadcasting updates every now and then, just as CNN and BBC were doing. Kudos to the Singaporeans for a well-organised job.
In Penang, most of us heard about the incident either through SMS or when we were caught in the massive traffic jams. Turning to radio and television was no help.
