I am directed to correct two inaccurate statements attributed to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng's in your recent news reports.

The first statement is: 'He (Lim) also denied there had been meetings with Anwar or that any proposal to rejoin BA is on the cards.' from the report Abandon Islamic state first, DAP tells PAS while the other is 'Lim denied there was a meeting with Anwar or that a proposal to rejoin the Barisan Alternatif (BA) - which it left in 2001 - is on the cards,' from the report PKR clarifies: Anwar met DAP leaders .

I wish to put on record that Lim has never denied there had been meetings with Anwar Ibrahim. This would be impossible as Lim has repeatedly said previously in the Chinese papers that he would be meeting with Anwar when the latter's health and personal commitments permit.

Lim had explicitly denied meeting Anwar on Jan 17, the day of DAP's central executive committee (CEC) meeting as reported in malaysiakini . He had indeed denied that when meeting Anwar, there was a proposal made for DAP to rejoin Barisan Alternatif which DAP left in 2001.

We hope that this inaccuracy will not be exploited by certain elements to facilitate a mischievous and misleading breach of confidentiality.

The writer is special assistant to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

Editor's note: Prior to writing the Jan 25 report , we had telephoned Lim Guan Eng for his comments. During the telephone interview, he clarified that he did not meet with Anwar on Jan 17. However, when asked whether he had met with Anwar a few days before Jan 17, Lim answered 'no'. And when asked whether he had met with Anwar 'recently', Lim again answered 'no'.
