I would like to compliment Jawi (Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan) for its wonderful website which sets a standard that other government departments in Malaysia need to achieve.

Despite the heaps of criticism piled on Jawi following the behavior of its officers during the infamous recent nightclub incident , the Jawi website actually allows members of the public to openly criticise Jawi on the Internet.

I was pleased to see that my open letter of criticism to Jawi was published on their website's 'Buku Pelawat' (Guestbook). I encourage all Malaysians to share their views on Jawi via the organisation's web-based guestbook .

I hope other government departments will follow this progressive example and allow the public to share feedback, compliments or criticism in the form of open letters published online on the government department's website. Perhaps this will help Malaysia reverse its rapidly declining ranking in international e-governance surveys.

My opinion of Jawi has changed from it being irrelevant and narrow-minded with a nasty holier-than-thou attitude. I now view it as irrelevant, narrow-minded with a nasty holier-than-thou attitude but with a fairly good grip on how to use the Internet for the public good.

My kudos to the information technology director at Jawi.
