Yesterday was indeed a historical day to see politicians from various parties putting aside their differences for one objective. For me, this isn't about political parties anymore - it is about dignity and pride for the nation.

There comes a time when we heed a certain call for the good of our beloved nation. This sacrifice is necessary for the future of our generations to come.

The enemy's enemy is a friend, so they say. We now have the Fellowship of the Ring who shall go up against the two towers of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak (Sauron) and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Saruman).

Ex-premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad is about 10 years shy of being 100 years old, yet he is still fighting.

Unlike former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Mahathir could have just enjoyed his retirement but still he chose to fight for our country.

Current PM Najib is too powerful, having repeatedly abusing his powers and burdening the people.

Mahathir, it's never too late to fight for the rakyat. While we, the rakyat, are altogether against Najib, Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem is (sadly) still supporting the PM.

Sometimes, it is good to fight battles together rather than to fight separately. It is true that the best way for our PM to be taken down is by the rakyat exercising their rights through a proper democratic channel. Hence, leaders play an important role in rallying the people to work together.

We need to put aside our differences to make Malaysia a better place to live in - for the current and future generations, too.

It is, of course, not easy to please everyone but at least we should come to a certain agreeable compromise. I believe that sensibility will prevail for the sake of our beloved nation.

The biggest obstacle

This initiative to remove Najib is vital and will determine the outcome of our nation. Najib, to me, is the biggest obstacle to economic growth in our country.

Under his administration, we experienced the depreciation of the ringgit, higher inflation, more unemployment, unfair economic distribution, etc.

The country keeps going down the drain. If the majority of Malaysians do not give their strong support to remove a destructive leader, then what beckons is simply greater destruction to come in Malaysia.

As a Sarawakian youth, I feel it is a good initial move to get the PM removed. It's good to see leaders from both sides of the political divide getting together for a common goal. Hopefully, the nation will understand that this is actually what we are longing for.

Who takes over is an irrelevant question at the moment. What we need to do now, is fight for justice, democracy and most importantly, eradicate corruption.

I also wish to believe that Mahathir is fighting to rectify his past mistakes and to ward off any ‘devils’ in the current government because of his love for the country and the people. Surely, he would also want to see his vision of Wawasan 2020 come to pass for all Malaysians.

The people may be touched by their stand to oust Najib and Umno, but please don't let us down. They have to promise us that there will be no treacherous or racist agendas later on.

The old Umno cronies - from top to bottom - should be cast aside and forgotten. If the current people of Malaysia - whether Malay, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans, Orang Asli and others - are to survive the next 50 years and compete on a world stage, we need to implement new policies, ideas and social practices to tackle current issues.

The situation is somewhat likened to what happened during World War II - where Russia, Britain and the US had put aside their differences and worked together to bring down the Nazi regime.

It is a powerful new beginning, and the fact that it’s happening today is better late than never. Moreover, it’s a vital piece of history that is worth commemorating in history books for generations to come. If only the honourable late Karpal Singh and Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat could see this.

We need to see the eradication of corrupted leaders, the old guards, the corporal system, as well as the petty issues of differences in cultures, denominations and practices.

We need to wake up and cooperate so that we can implement what's good for the people and the country. We Malaysians must make a change. This country needs a new leader - one that is young, vigorous, committed and highly intelligent.

So, let’s rally together for one common cause. Let's do it together!
