Abusive e-mails: Punish those who forward them too
I would like to suggest new laws be formulated the sending out of e-mail. In many cases recently, e-mail has been used as a medium to put people on trial to be judged and found guilty even before the courts have made any decision.
What really bothers me is that some of these e-mails come together with photographs which have the intention of humiliating a person even before proven of any guilt. And when receiving such a mail, I cannot help but notice the long list of addressees that the mail has been forwarded to before reaching me.
I would like to suggest a new law be made that makes it an offence to forward offensive and defamatory e-mail. Current laws only take into account the party that first sent the e-mail. What about those that forward it? Don't they too, bear the same guilt?
I suggest that if a police report, action should not only be taken against the person who created the e-mail in the first place but also to the people who forwarded them. A deterrent in the form of a huge fine could be imposed if they are found guilty.
To those who enjoy forwarding such disgusting e-mails, they should please be advised that what they are doing is wrong. Think again before hitting clicking that 'Forward' icon. Let's use e-mail responsibly.
