The on-going campaign to flush out illegal immigrants from Malaysia will end up as a failure just like the previous ones. There will always be big talk initially about what will be done but when it comes to actual sustained action, the issue will fade away as always and everyone goes about doing their business as usual.

That has been and will always be how the BN government operates. I always wonder when the voters of Malaysia will realise their mistake of giving BN a huge vote of confidence at every general elections in spite of its extremely poor service.

The illegal migrant problem is not new at all. For decades, we have faced this problem and no concrete action has ever been taken to resolve it. Why is this? Because the root cause of the ever increasing number of illegal migrants flooding Malaysia is the ruling party itself.

The following examples will clearly show why I say BN must be held responsible.

1) BN has used illegal immigrants to win elections. This is particularly evident in Sabah though it might have happened in other states as well. Many of them have been given Malaysian identity cards, registered as voters and required to vote for BN.

This action by BN has encouraged many more migrants to come to Malaysia and the government now finds itself in a mess.

2) Practically everyone knows where the illegal migrant colonies are located, yet the enforcement authorities do nothing. Why? Probably you would have guessed it correctly, that is it is much easier to keep their eyes closed since there is a 'regular income'.

3) Again we can see thousands of these illegal immigrants working in construction sites in major cities and many other places. How is it possible for them to work openly when it is illegal for them to work and for Malaysians to employ them?

Why has no action been taken against them or their employers? Probably because the cronies of BN leaders are the ones involved in the employment of illegal migrants either directly or indirectly. This may explain why action is not taken against such employers. After all, cronies of BN leaders fund their political activities.

4) Squatters settlements built and occupied by illegal migrants are often provided with water and electricity. How can they enjoy these facilities so easily? Corruption at all levels is the reason.

The list can go on.

It has been estimated that there are close to a million illegal migrants in the country. Thanks to BN, everyone is now looking for ways to make some money out of the misery of these migrant workers who are sometimes cheated with the offer of legal employment in Malaysia.

Malaysians should hold BN government responsible and ensure that they sort out this mess soon or risk being punished in the next general election. It is time to say 'enough is enough'.
